A LITTLE HISTORY

Carnforth Carnival has been an event for the books for every age group since 1963 where it was held at Carnforth Cricket Club and following it's success over the years meant a larger venue was needed.

The new venue - Carnival to Carnforth High School's sports pitch, where it can be found to this day. With the larger grounds to hold the Carnival, so to increased the number of attractions - once upon a time you could take a helicopter ride over Carnforth and the Carnival as well as take part in old school fairground games.

Carnforth Carnival was revived in 2015 after a 20 year hiatus, and experienced its heyday during the 1970s and 80s, when a string of famous faces led the parade of marching bands and floats through the streets.

They included Emmerdale Farm star Stan Richards, who appeared in his character Seth Armstrong's gamekeeper's hat at the 1988 carnival, its silver jubilee. Crossroads actor Paul Henry, who played handyman Benny Hawkins, was the VIP in 1986.

More recently, in 2019 we had Danny Miller and Adam Thomas from Emmerdale as our Celebrity guests as well as a plethora of other attractions like a small fairground, art stalls and the legendry Tug-of-War!

The recent history of the Carnival is rather empty due to a world wide pandemic, the committee made the heartbreaking decision to postpone the momentus event in the interest in public safety.
